GENO from Rowan Magazine 43

　Rowan magazine 43号から初の作品です。今回のマガジンには、それほど編みたいものが無かったのですが、何も作らないのも勿体ないような気がしたので「GENO」に挑戦しました。マガジンで難易度３とついている作品に挑戦するのは初めてだったので始める前は「ちゃんとできるかなー」とちょっと心配。

バックはレースではなくメリヤス編みなので難なく終了。前身頃のレース部分に取りかかりました。ここは、右上一目一度と左上一目一度がよく出て来るので、間違えないように編み図をコピーして、それぞれ別の色で ハイライトしながら少しずつ進めました。このレースパターンの進め方について、ravelryを通じて質問をいただいたので、その際の回答を参考に下につ けてみました。

レースパターンの進め方==================================================================

レースパターンの進め方で鍵となるのが、マガジンの説明にもある通り「ensure that a st is decreased for every st that is increased so that number of sts remains constant, except where shaping occurs」ということです。つまり、減らし目と増し目が常にセットになっているため、（脇の増減を除いて）目数は常に一定になります。

そのため、サイズ８〜20を編む場合は、パターンを少し変える必要があります。

例えば、サイズ12を作っている場合。「left front chart（113ページ）」で、「12」と示された縦のラインの左側から始める事になります。最初の４段については、チャートの通りで問題有りません。

しかし、５段目の最初の目は、yfwdからKに変える必要があります。これは、先程ご紹介したマガジンの説明通り、減らし目と増し目が必ずペアになってい る必要があるからです。5段目の最初のyfwdの目のペアである減らし目は、12のラインの右側にあります。このため、チャートのままyfwdで編んでし まうと、一目多くなってしまうのです。その他の段についても、この法則にしたがって、自分のサイズにあわせてチャートを調整する必要があります。

完成＆着用写真です。大物のレースパターンに初めて挑みましたが、結構楽しかった！編みがいがありますね。

ひとつ意外だったのが、袖が思ったより「バルーン」だったこと。マガジンの着用写真ではあまりそのように見えないし、ravelryで完成した写真を載せていた人は、長袖にアレンジしていたようなので分かりませんでした。甘くなり過ぎないようにどうコーディネートするかが思案どころですね。

My first project from Rowan Magazine 43.  In this issue, I didn't have much project I wanted to knit compared to other Rowan magazines. But it would be a waste if I don't knit any from it. So I tried to knit GENO. It's my first challenge to knit a project marked as "for the more experienced knitter" in the magazine.

The back site of the project was simple stockinette stitch.

There are many "K2tog" and "S1 K1 psso" for front lace patterns. So not to make mistakes, I made a photocopy of the pattern and highlighted each of them with different colors. Also, a friend through ravelry gave me a question about the lace pattern. I attach my answer for this as below as tips for the lace pattern.

The finished project as above photos. The sleeves are more like balloon shape than I thought. The photo in the magazine didn't seem like that. To wear this cardigan, I think I need to be careful not to be too sweet style.

=Tips for the lace pattern=
The key point is to “ensure that a st is decreased for every st that is increased so that number of sts remains constant, except where shaping occurs” as the magazine says.

It means we should tweak the pattern a little bit to make size 8 to 20.

Please see the “left front chart” on page 113. For example, if you knit size 12, you are starting from the vertical line marked as 12. For first 4 rows, please knit exactly same as the chart.

On the 5th row, the first yfwd(yo) should be changed to K. Because as the key point says, decrease st and increase st match everytime (like they are buddy). The buddy for this YO is in the right side of the vertical line marked as 12. So it means, if you YO as the chart says, the sts can’t remain constant.

Please keep this rule and tweak your chart fit to your size.
